EVEREST

EVEREST

2023

PERFormative action + PERFormative ARTEFACT [8,848.86 m BALL OF STRING]

Everest was created through a durational performance [Summit (for Everest)] in which a 8,848.86 m (29,031.7 ft) ball of string was wound – a length equal to the world’s highest mountain. Questioning our perception of scale (and the act of scaling great heights) this work compresses the epic into the ordinary – shifting the measure of distance, time, and endurance-based labour toward an act of absurdity.

Accompanying the twine are two drawings that measure the length that Everest grows each year and the amount it has grown in my lifetime.
